Commemorative Banquet
#1
Philippe stood in the center of the banquet hall, arms akimbo. he looked about as the bunting was hung, the caterers were bringing in their gear, and other folk milling about. Fabulous. This has to be fabulous. No, no, don't hang that bunting of Hawaiian print there. Fudgie hates that, she just hates that. Oh, DJ, watch out. She does not like country music. Play something by the Clash now and then.

Then the whir of a chain saw blotted out the rest of the hub-bub. He walked to the ice sculptor to check on the designs What? She would really like it to look like David Hasselhoff. Oh, I see. you're afraid your eyes will burn out if you carved him in ice? Well, I don't blame you.

"It'll all work out, major domo Philippe thought as the crash of glass from the kitchen alerted him to another problem. "It's always crazy just before things start"

Fronk, the redundant wedding planner, minced into the banquet hall...

What no swans?..The Delegate was mad not to go for the swans...I know we are going to end up with some gaudy monstronsity...Probably involving Hawaiian Print and effiges to 'The Hoff'...

Alerted by the sound of breaking glass, Fronk turns to the kitchens and shakes his head...

You pays peanuts, you gets monkeys, or probably in this case Oscar trying to sharpen the rims of the champagne flutes with his grinding wheel...

Monkeys? Monkeys? Philippe was puzzled. Oh, are you suggesting, Fronk, that we dress up monkeys in cute little pink tuxedos and have them work as the waitstaff? If would solve one of the entertainment issues that flared up. Yes, the Flying Zamboni Brothers had to cancel their high-wire act.

Monkeys. Yes, monkeys.

Why yes, I think I am...And if it's entertainment we are after then I don't think we have to look any further than this...Especially if you think about the last time Madame Delegate was let loose into an environment where there was an abundance of Hoff, Hawaiian print, squirty cream and mankinis...

Mankini? We were talking about monkeys! Of course then the light went on over Philippe's head. Yes, yes, I can see it now. Monkeys dressed in florid Hawaiian print mankinis. That will cover up unsightly buttocks and reduce the risk of the monkeys engaging in their favorite acticity. I can see it now . . . .

And with a flash, Philippe was calling Chuck's House o'Monkeys Send two dozen marmosets, about 30 spider monkeys, ooh, do you have any Capuchins? Send them as well. Hmm, Baboons? Well, they aren't really monkeys but apes . . . no, no, send them. They can carry the heavy load. Well, we aren't looking for a Planet of the Apes scenario here, just monkey butlers, waiters, and busboys . . yes, yes, bus simians would be correct.

Place them there, Lamont Philippe waved a hand to the kitchen Charles will get them into their uniforms. Darn straight Charles would. Have you ever tried to get a Hawaiian print mankini onto an angry Capuchin monkey? It's not a pretty sight.

Within two hours the monkey wait staff was ready; the eerie ice sculpture which, under the right light, just might look like David Hasselhoff glistened, the buffet line was set, and the DJ was playing soft instrumental music suitable for dining.

Ah, all set, Philippe thought. Nothing possible can go wrong now . . .
