What powers do we want our admins/mods to have? How do these compare to the role of the courts and the Justice Department here? One thing that has caught me is how administrators have stated they are "watching a thread closely" indicating that they have a power to shut down a discussion. Is this a power we want them to have? To what extent? Maybe if the topic starter agrees?Any other thoughts?

First the reason it has been posted that we are watching over threads is due to them being related to a very controversial topic. We have seen in the past how those topics that involve Unibot and other people get very heated and some times down right nasty. I as an admin will make sure that I and the other admins take notice of those threads.

I'm not criticizing the admin team for this, rather, I am just interested to see what powers the Assembly believes the admin team should have (be them more proactive and involve more intervention, or more hands off).

I think the admin team has not abused their powers, if thats really what youre looking for. Actually, I think they have been perfect. Though, Ive only been around for about a year.

I've no complaints. We're a million miles from TRR at it's worst, so far so good.

Okay, so then, how do we want to legislate this bad boy out?Give administrators the authority to:- Intervene in arguments when they deem necessary.- Close abusive/argumentative threads- Deal immediately with TOS violations (with perhaps judicial review in the long term)Should the judicial branch be able to overrule any administrative choices? If so, which ones, and on what sort of time frame?

I wouldn't support an legislation on the admin team and that isn't because I am an admin. I also don't believe that we need to have Judicial Review of admin actions the admin team can review the actions of other admins. This is not TNP where the root admin overrules every decision by another admin we don't need to go where you are going.

This community, indeed every community on a forum with a political government, has two separate bodies of quasi-judicial power. The reason I brought this topic up was because of a question I posed in a candidate's thread, and how I thought it is an important one to have: What powers do we give to the admins, when do they get to use them, are there any checks & balances from the political government.I'm fine with not issuing legislation, but I find it to be a fascinating discussion... and I am perturbed by how people seem to believe this is about abuse or power, or root admin v. admin issues...So I suppose, I am not even aware of "where I'm going"

Okay from what you said there you would like to see some kind of code of conduct for admins? Maybe I am just interpreting what you are saying incorrectly.

Hmm...well I apologize, I admit I am throwing out half formed thoughts.I don't want a Code of Conduct, per say, but rather a look into how we separate the political Department of Justice from the Admin Team.An example: If porn spammers started attacking our forum, that would absolutely be an admin team issue. No way are we going to try to take those spammers through our legal process. On the other hand, there are many more grey areas, such as spam. Do we want the admin team to suspend spammers, or have the courts issue suspensions? When do we use the courts, and when do we just deal out the just desserts?
