TSP Flag Contest
#1
[Image: Globeofflags.png?t=1377714322]

So guys, this thread will be from where I'll be running the TSP flag contest from. Everyone and anyone is invited to submit designs, as many as they want, and I will be taking submissions via posts in this thread, on the RMB TG, PM or any other method someone manages to get one to me.

Submissions will be collected in in this post bellow the break and will feature the following information - The design itself, the name of the creator/s, the 'name' of the flag if it has one and a short paragraph about the design and what it represents/how TSP could use it.

Submissions will officially run for one week between the 1st of September and the 7th of September, though there is nothing stopping people from starting work now and posting what they have for feedback and improvements.

Voting will be run for the next week between the 8th and the 14th on the NS website, by a method I will be keeping secret till then.

There are two prizes up for grabs. The first, the honor of having your design fly over TSP for the foreseeable future (the period of this will be determined by how popular this contest is; if people like it I may run it again in the future) will go to the flag chosen by the region. The second prize is a game on steam, which will go to the person who designs my personal favorite flag; these may be the same person. Now, whilst it would be nice to have you guys think I went out and bought a game for this, I didn't; I'm an impoverished student. I received a copy of something I already owned as part of a pre-purchase deal.

I considered having no rules for this competition, but a few are needed;

  1. Flags must be in a 3:2 ratio as this is what the NS site re-sizes to
  2. Flags must not break any NS rules
  3. Flags must be in good taste and appropriate for a PG-13 audience
  4. Flags must be original designs or modified works under fair-use/creative commons guidelines; No plagiarism
  5. Flags must not be derivative of other NS regions'; I will not allow someone to submit, for example, The Black Hawks' flag
  6. Flags must not feature imagery reminiscent of criminal groups or individuals, NS or IRL
  7. The Delegate may alter these rules any way he wants at any time; TSP may be a democracy but this contest isn't
I look forward to your designs. Now, get drawing.

Slight correction, the ratio is 3:2.

While I'm still a minor user and more of a background lurker, I may attempt an entry.

I like the shield in your signature, Bel. It's heraldic looking and has three colors.

Description: All flags contain the following elements:
- The palm tree, which has been a symbol of TSP for a very long time
- The southern cross, symbolizing that we are the South Pacific, against the blue night sky
- And, in image 2 and 3, the warm south pacific sun, in two versions

In all images above, the palm tree is courtesy DaPino graphics under creative commons license.

I have some entries Smile

The outline of the real-world southern portion of the Pacific Ocean, below a rising sun. The circle is reminiscent of the former flag.

A full sun behind a palm tree silhouette.

A minimal design, featuring the outline of the real-world southern portion of the Pacific Ocean.

A minimal design, featuring the characteristic palm tree.

Outline of the Pacific Ocean comes from Wikimedia Commons. Palm tree silhouette comes from openclipart.com.

My entries:

All elements come from the Wikimedia Commons and are in the public domain.

The flag is a modified version of ill-fated West Indies Federation with the seal Palm Beach County, Florida superimposed in the center.  The wave pattern represents the South Pacific and the tranquility of the region, while the center represents the breath taking vistas characteristic of the South Pacific.  The version with the bright green palm trees uses the actual seal of Palm Beach County, while the version with the normal green has been modified. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge.

Here are my first entries for the contest.  They all use free or royalty free images.  If anyone wants to edit\improve these, go ahead:

This is my version of the original TSP flag.

This is my unicorn themed flag.  It has a heraldic look and if TSP had to have an official animal it could very well be the unicorn.

This design was entirely based on the TSP Coalition 10th Anniversary flag designed for SB (by Lady Rebel?). I liked the minimalist look of it.

This is a variation on the previous design.

Other ideas that I would love to work on but did not have time to implement: a lamp shade themed flag, a rainbow somewhere in there, and another unicorn themed flag.

It's a two headed unicorn with (obviously) a horn each...does that make it a duocorn?

Btw, historically, the badger used to be a kind of TSP regional animal...

May as well throw my hat into the ring, a blue tricolour with a Byzantine eagle and a palm tree emblazoned on its chest. Not the prettiest flag but it looks somewhat passable.
