The South Pacific: A History
#26
I was wondering if anyone has ever thought about writing up a official formal history of TSP? A complete chronicle of the region?

I would enjoy reading such a thing.

I am a member of the Committee for State Security. Yay safe region!
Feel free to PM me with any questions / concerns Smile

Is there someone or maybe a couple of individuals who may have that knowledge that could right that complete history?

Here's the start of it -- http://www.nswiki.net/index.php?title=The_South_Pacific

I think it would be a pretty massive undertaking to put the pieces back together. But probably worth the effort.

Perhaps a first step could be to start writing what has happened this year. That way we could have a least a small piece of TSP history for future citizens to read.

Here's another question: who was The Cat Tribe?

I believe The Cat Tribe was a nation, no? Or am I making that up?

I think that too, but I wonder what did they do to have the archive named after them?

The Cat Tribe was a long time resident in TSP. He actually mostly kept to himself, and during my first term as delegate we TGed a bit.

When Sedge couped, TCT was possibly the biggest supporter of the coalition government.

He posted a lot combatting sedges lies and supporting our reclamation efforts.

The thing is, he never wanted to be bothered with regional affaires, and wanted to keep to himself. When the coup was over, he TGed me that he didn't like the chaos and was done with NS.

It really shows our impact, and the importance of engagement with the region too.

The Coalition was the first forum based GCR government in NS.

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure about that- I'm pretty sure the Rejected Realms predated TSP's government- although TSP was the first forum-based democratic government.

for a period of time TSP was under the control of a UCR military alliance called the Atlantic Central Command. The Coalition was formed under it's nominal suzerainty until Lady Rebels declared independence.

I'm not entirely sure the ACC ever had their flag flying over TSP. LR was a former member of the ACC, but I cannot recall if she became delegate with their assistance. Tsu, do you remember anything about that? And FWIW, the ACC wasn't an alliance, it was one raider region.

No idea, but at least he's not around as Geomania. One of the longest serving MoFAs of the region, after Mavenu I think.

I succeeded Mavenu as MoFA. Then Fudgie beat me in an election about a year and a half after succeeding him and I left the region in disgrace because I had been acting like a petulant, rude child. I returned about a year later and soon became the Minister of Security. I think I was the first Minister to serve after the Defense and Intelligence ministries were merged.

I *imagine* the previous government looked not all that much different that ours ... primarily because I can't imagine we wrote an entirely new charter back in the day.

Actually, Slackervania (who might have actually been a lawyer? I don't know), who was the first Minister of Justice (which was then a cabinet position) wrote a good chunk, if not the majority, of the charter on her own with input from TSP citizens.

I'm overwhelmed with so much TSP early history! We really should write this down. :)

So Fudgie was elected MoFA at some point? Perhaps you could take a look at the Hall of Ministers in the MoFA section and tell me if something is wrong of missing?

I know both she and Alpha C were part of the ACC, but I don't think the ACC ever claimed TSP.

And, with regard to Slacker, she was def. the first Sec./Minister of Justice. But I was referring to what was going on under Killer Monkeys? Idk if they had a charter on those forums?

When I was last looking through the archives I couldn't find any form of drafting or voting process for the Charter, which seems to have been in place when we moved to the invisionfree board. My conclusion was that it must have been drafted on the killer monkeys forums.

A lot of the early history we have is based on guess work from us digging around in the archives or the TSP wikis. Records seem to indicate that we were under ACC control at one point, but I'm not sure how accurate our records are.

Both Alpha C and LR were part of the ACC, but TSP was never the under direct ACC control.

A Geo sighting...cool.

Probably starting with the most recent era and working backwards would be the way to go. I probably can assist with the '04-'06 era, much of which predates Fudgie's ascendancy to the delegacy.

Something from that time period that I only learned of afterwards was how much rapport there was between the NPO/PRP  and TSP. I should have known given other details I was aware of, but even publicly a person like goddessness who was also a member of the elite in TP for a time should have been self evident.

One thing regarding Godessness's second delegacy that I'd like to note. In late 2005, she & I hatched a plan to 'coup' TSP from the inside out. She would be good cop to my bad cop. I would go on to form things like the COG with the plan to frustrate the establishment and throw support her way so that she could win and then bring wholesale changes to TSP. The planning took place on IRC and on The Meritocracy forums. She would go on to eventually win the delegacy, but I've always assumed, especially after my untimely exit in Feb. '06, that she was just using me and getting info on me. Could be true...but in any event, I would not want that tidbit lost to history.

I think some might find the fall of LadyRebels to be of note as when I first joined here, I thought she was the most powerful person in TSP at the time. I'd love if the political party I founded (and Geo was a member), the Coalition for Open Government (COG) got a little mention as well. Shameless plug. Shameless plug.

And there are a few oldies around who'd have some ACC history. I don't know if LR is fully around but I'm sure she's got some stories she could tell.

Ok...as I have entered my late twenties (27 in a few months, actually my birth date is *gulp* 9/11) I have been the *youngest* for so long.

But as I'm reading through many of these threads many of you are high school, in college, just graduating college, etc. I think Lady Rebels has some older children so I'm hoping she has some years on me   Big Grin , but can someone make me feel good by saying they're older than me?

LR is more miss than hit... I tied dragging her butt back, but she's a woman who is always on the go, and that makes it hard for her to access interwebs. I'll poke her and see if she'd at least like to throw some info in this thread...

Unless I'm mistaken, this is the original TSP forum created by Killer Monkeys in early 2003.

Holy ... ish. Where did you find this???

I don't recall the main page, but the forums look ... relatively right? It's been so long, but I know I was editing the SPIN at the time of the original upheaval.

And ... not to be this asshat, but by the time Fathoms took over, I'm pretty sure KillerMonkeys was long gone, which makes that page confusing. Geo -- can you confirm? What do you remember?

I mean ... it's been forever ... but if KM was still around ... I'm not sure why I would've started a second board?

A post in the old forums had these links. I imagined this would be the place to let you guys determine whether that was or not the original forum.

When we were researching early TSP history for the regional holidays we got the impression that the KM forums were 'lost' back in '03, forcing the forum move.

I started in May '04 and I do recall mention of the "old forums". I didn't think it was due to the forums being lost, but a wish to go to better forums under a new government. My memory is probably hazy as I was not around in '03, but I do remember mention of the "old forums" every now and then.

Interesting. I mean -- I suppose that makes sense? KM was the admin of those forums and I know he didn't stick around after the XYZ affair.

This does, however, explain where the original charter came from. It sucks that the threads weren't cached.

I wish I could remember more. That was 10 years and several computers ago ...
