  Hileville and the Admin Team
Posted by: Arbiter08 - 03-21-2014, 01:55 PM - Forum: The Cabinet Office - Replies (9)

What do you guys think about Hileville and him removing Tsu, Rebs, SB, and HEM from the admin team?

Also, what about Bel's TG he sent to the region?

"This morning a coup occurred in our region, though you probably won't have realized it. The root admin of our offsite forums - where we base our government - has gone rogue, and removed every other active member of the admin team without consultation, prior notice, or anything even approaching consent. He did this having failed to get his own way in an internal admin matter, when a previous action he had taken was objected to by the rest of the admin team. He is currently in the process of drafting new admins, who he presumably expects to do as he tells them.

Right now the region is in a certain amount of chaos; there is no physical way for us to remove the root admin. In practical terms he controls our forums. But he does not control this region. This region is a community. What is more, it is a democracy. Decisions are made collectively, not unilaterally. And no one individual can force their will on the region. At least, not yet.

As we speak our root admin - Hileville - is moving to increase his control of the forums, and by extension this region. Our present government has yet to respond. How they do respond will largely be shaped by the reaction of you, the people who make up TSP. The question is simple; are you willing to live in a dictatorship? For that is the logical conclusion we are faced with, unless Hileville is forced to back down by the region. Only you can do that.

If you want TSP to remain a free, democratic region, then speak out on the RMB and our forums. Let Hileville know that he does not own this region, as he clearly thinks he does."

Should any action be taken to what either Hile or Bel did? If so, what do you think would be an appropriate action?

Forum Administration Shake-Up Causes Controversy
COMMENTARY | UNIBOT

A tropical storm brews in The South Pacific...

Late last night, Hileville removed several administrators from The South Pacific’s staff on the basis that they had not maintained sufficient activity.  According to Hileville, this shakeup has been in the works since February 12, 2014 – but no administrators chose to discuss the open topic on the subject after it was posted by Hileville.

“Since we moved to these forums there has been a steady decline in admins actually working,” says Hileville. “For the most part these tasks have completely fallen on my shoulders.  In my current real schedule I cannot continue to handle every issue and task that arises.  The admin team needs to have the knowledge and desire to perform these duties.  I no longer feel several of our admins have any plans on doing just that’.

Hileville removed HEM, Southern Bellz, Rebeltopia and Tsunamy as administrators – while appointing current Vice Delegate, Kris Kringle and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sandaoguo as new administrators. Hileville, however, noted this shake-up would likely not go without controversy.

“I do not take these moves lightly and I understand that people will be upset and feel that I am being a evil dictator,” says Hileville. “ If the community as a whole feels that this move is wrong steps to move forums should be considered.  I have tried over the last year or so that we have been on these boards to provide the best and most rewarding community experience of all the GCR's.  In order to continue and improve on this experience we need admins who are willing to do everything in their power to get the job done”.

Since the announcement, the move has been received as positive by some members, including Escade, the delegate of The South Pacific, but also criticized harshly by Belschaft and others who were affected by this decision. Belschaft, HEM and Southern Bellz, especially, voiced their opinion that this was a move to silence discussion over whether or not Belschaft should be retained as an admin -- the exact circumstances surrounding Belschaft's prior removal from the administration team have not yet been made to the public.

“Two and a half weeks ago I was unilaterally removed from the admin team,” explains Belschaft, “Needless to say, HEM, Southern Bellz, Rebeltopia and Tsunamy were not pleased with this course of action. We've been attempting to deal with the matter internally, but yesterday Hileville ruled that his was the only opinion that mattered, forbade any of the other admins to discuss the matter with me, and declared that the admin team would not be allowed to vote on the matter”.

Southern Bellz and HEM’s objections echoed Belschaft’s complaints. While Belschaft called Hileville, a “rogue admin”, HEM and Southern Bellz decried Hileville’s accusations that they were inactive and also claimed that this move was a result of them disagreeing with Hileville on whether Belschaft should be retained as an admin.

Hileville, on the other hand, disagreed with their claims - citing their inactivity as administrators.

“HEM's last administrative action was completed on the 24th of January with a grand total of 20 actions taken dating back to July,” says Hileville, while also noting, “Southern Bellz has in the past expressed no real desire to complete the basic tasks of an admin”.

Meanwhile, the discussion has taken a dire turn, as Belschaft has sent telegrams to all of the citizens of The South Pacific, calling Hileville’s shake-up a “coup”, Hileville, a “rogue admin” and The South Pacific’s present state, a “dictatorship”.

Citizens were also urged by Belschaft to begin discussing this issue on the Regional Message Board.

“If you want TSP to remain a free, democratic region, then speak out on the RMB and our forums,” says Belschaft, “Let Hileville know that he does not own this region, as he clearly thinks he does”.

What remains to be seen is (i) why was Belschaft removed from the admin staff – we do not know yet what the other admins were discussing, (ii) what will be the delegate’s response to this crisis, (iii) will this affect Belschaft’s membership in the South Pacific’s security council and, finally, will this affect the upcoming elections? Many questions surfaced around this issue have yet to be answered and our hope is more light will be shed on this story in the coming hours.

"This morning a coup occurred in our region" WTF?
Posted by: Unibot - 03-21-2014, 09:16 AM - Forum: Private Halls of the Assembly - Replies (20)

Belschaft just sent out a telegram to everyone in the region:

Quote:The Grumpy Old Fart of South Pacific Belschaft → region: the South Pacific

Morning folks,

This morning a coup occurred in our region, though you probably won't have realized it.

Let Hileville know that he does not own this region, as he clearly thinks he does.

Yours,

South Pacific Belschaft

Former Delegate

Member of the Committee for State Security

I don't think we're being "couped" and this seems really really harsh and brutally rash on Belschaft's part. We should have a discussion on whether Belschaft is really a good fit for the CSS, in my opinion.

I don't think a member of the CSS should be stirring up chaos and crap like this -- disagree with Hileville, sure. But accuse of him couping? And sending out telegrams to everyone? Without even more than a few hours of discussion!? I think that's the kind of behavior that the CSS should be concerned about, not.. personally pursuing.

Was the CSS informed before hand that Belschaft intended to submit and circulate this telegram?

  Admin Team Shakeup
Posted by: Hileville - 03-21-2014, 03:02 AM - Forum: Operations Center - Replies (108)

On the 12 of February I informed the admin team via a thread in our private discussion area that a possible shakeup was going to happen.  I have not held this information in some top secret bunker.  I have been vocal about it to many of our Government members and other members of this community in which I trust.  I have quoted the contents of this post below.

Quote:I have made it known to several people that I am looking into a shakeup on the admin team which would result in fewer admins being more active on admin tasks. I wanted to have this thread which will serve as a heads up that changes may be made in the near future. I will be contacting a few of you to work on new moderation policies which will change the way we moderate the forums. Ultimately, I believe a change in culture is needed and am looking at ways to make that happen.

The post received no replies.  There have also been many other threads that were of importance over the last 6 months that were ignored.

Since we moved to these forums there has been a steady decline in admins actually working.  For the most part these tasks have completely fallen on my shoulders.  In my current RL schedule I cannot continue to handle every issue and task that arises.  The admin team needs to have the knowledge and desire to perform these duties.  I no longer feel several of our admins have any plans on doing just that.

It is with this post that I announce the removal of HEM from the admin team.  HEM's last administrative action was completed on the 24th of January with a grand total of 20 actions taken dating back to July.

Southern Bellz will also be removed from the admin team.  SB has in the past expressed no real desire to complete the basic tasks of an admin.  I have no desire to force people to do something they do not want so therefore feel it is best to remove them from the equation.  Southern Bellz will retain the power to alter member masks until the completion of his term as MoA.  At the end of the term Southern Bellz will be moved to the Former Admin masking unless a different mask is needed based on elections.

Rebeltopia and Tsunamy have also been removed as an admin.

Kris Kringle and Sandaoguo at this time will be given full administrative access.  Both Kris and Sandaoguo have expressed interest in the past to become admins.  The current admin team as of this post consists of myself, Drugged Monkeys, Sandaoguo, and Kris Kringle.

I do not take these moves lightly and I understand that people will be upset and feel that I am being a evil dictator.  If the community as a whole feels that this move is wrong steps to move forums should be considered.  I have tried over the last year or so that we have been on these boards to provide the best and most rewarding community experience of all the GCR's.  In order to continue and improve on this experience we need admins who are willing to do everything in their power to get the job done.

Thanks,

Hileville

Kantrias Update: February/March

An Experienced 16th Senate Results in Interior Action

In the February Senate Elections citizens chose among four well-known candidates, as well as two eager new faces. While the vote was close and almost made one newcomer a senator, Kantrias chose in the end to place its government in the hands of experience once again.
Since then, the new senators have been working largely behind the scenes. Senator MagentaFairy imparts, "We're reworking some of the older systems in the Senate. It's more internal than external though - all in the hopes that the Senate can be more productive for the future."

Kantrias speaks of a possible economy

Close after the notable reformation movements of last month, rumors of a possible Kantrian economy have surfaced.
This is not a new idea; Kantrias has entertained the notion of an economy since its founding. However, as the compatibility of Kantrias' structure with an economy has been questioned, the idea has been forestalled and even countered by some.
"I think that as of this exact moment, the economy would do no harm to Kantrias as a whole, but wouldn't really change the situation in any radical way," senator Roman Pierce comments. "The problem is that we just don't have any way of giving an incentive to try and get more money and spend it in creative ways. As multiple people have stated, having a lot of money in this economy wouldn't really grant you any power or give you many opportunities to spend it. We need to have an incentive to seek out ways to make money and a way to use that money to give yourself advantages."
Talk of the economy flourished near the beginning of the month but slowed down as uncertainties on the best economy for the region emerged. While only time will tell what lies ahead for Kantrias, the idea remains but a rumor among citizens for now.

Citizens lobby for various Kantrias themes

As mentioned in the last update, Kantrias has undertaken a renaming of several Ministries and government positions. This renaming was not restricted to the government or the king but was instead opened for the participation of the public. Citizens suggested numerous names, struck several others down, and amended others for days before coming to any agreements.
By the end of February, though, most or all of the new titles were decided and put into place. Some of the new Ministries include The Lily and its governing Institute for Cultural Development, formerly combined in the Ministry of Culture, now directed by the Curator of the Institute; Castle Malderian, the former Ministry of War, now commanded by the High Marshall; and the Agency, a new ministry entirely, lead by the Director. The official description of the ministry reads, "The Agency of Activity and Intergration of New Citizens to the Greater Kantrian Area in the Field of Public and Private Job Placement (Simply called "The Agency") for short was created as the rising industrialization created a need for an expanded bureaucracy to staff positions, and to handle the job-placement of the unemployed in private postings as well. Headed by The Director."

The ICD Announces a Timeless Contest

As part of the restructuring which began in January, Kantrias recently founded the Institute for Cultural Development, which has kept quite busy since it began. Composed of several ambitious artists and seeking even more, it just launched its first large contest, called "A City in Time." The contest calls Kantrians to build a new city for the region, complete with a title, overview, and engaging historical background. They are to be submitted by the 18th, at which time the public will have the chance to vote on their favorite city. The winning city will be preserved in Kantrias forever as part of our official history. The winner will also receive additional rewards.
"A City in Time is an expansion of Kantrian history and consequently culture," says the contest's main author, Jimothy Wright. "It shows us how each other invisions the region, then immortalizes the sentiments of this time. In a year from now perhaps it will be something quite different, whilst the Kantrians of that time admire their past. Furthermore, it encourages thoughts of what Kantrias is and draws people into the community of the region. This is why I believe the event ought to be a large success, ere I must encourage everyone to participate." Citizens of other regions, as well as Kantrias citizens, will be able to read about the winning city as a dispatch on Kantrias' World Factbook Entry.

For the first time, unexperienced citizens take over the Senate

The March senate elections got off to a slow start this time around, as previous senators sought a break from this area of government. Little did they realize this would result in the first ever board of all unexperienced senators.
Victorious people, the newest Kantrias citizen of the Senate, ran affiliated with the Insanity Party under an ambitious philosophy of activity, as well as amendments to some of Kantrias' recent laws, such as the Criminal Code and the Senate Inactivity Act. He also mentioned his wish to get more involved in Kantrias through his responsibility as a senator. "I think a term on the Senate would be an excellent chance for me to get started in Kantrias," he said. " I want to use my activity to help encourage others to do the same, and I want to build experience by serving on the Senate."
Datford-Zyvetskistaahn ran without a party affiliation, mainly to increase the number of senators serving this cycle. Because Zyvetskistaahn did not announce a platform on his policies as senator, citizens cannot guess what he will do with this new position, but instead wait to see.
Adara Vidalia was the last to stand for senate, affiliated with the insanity party. She stated her primary goal of encouraging various kinds of activity in the region, both for newcomers and earlier citizens. She also stated a wish to involve the public in each of her senate decisions. "I ask you to trust the logic and reasoning of my fellow senators and I to make decisions," she explained. "But even so, I would welcome the input of other citizens, and I would do what I could to encourage others to speak with me about any of my policies they don't agree with."

Moratorium on Animal Testing

A resolution to argue that fluffy animals are more important than sick humans.
